Fannypacks Provide Lots of Versatility

A fannypack is a type of bag that you wear around your waist and is great for holding small items or loose change when you are out and about. If you are from the UK or anywhere outside the US and Canada then you probably won’t use the term as fannypacks are called different things around the world. For example in the UK they are called a hip pack or bum bag.

So why are fannypacks called this? Because they are secured around the waist area and can sometimes be worn so backwards the term fannypack was used as fanny is a slang term for buttocks in America. This is the same reason why they are called bum bags in the UK.

There are many reasons that you might want to use a fannypack but the people that usually use them the most are keen like riders or ramblers. They are very useful if you are going to be walking a lot and don’t want to have to carry your bag on a shoulder which can cause lots of back problems. They are also great when you are travelling because it is a lot more difficult for someone to steal out of a fannypack than it is out of your pockets or a rucksack.

People with disabilities may also find that a fannypacks very useful because they are completely hands free. This is the feature that makes them so popular amongst many people including those who have professions that forces them to be on the move a lot.

However the problem with the fannypack is that they aren’t considered very fashionable at the moment. While they used to be popular in the late 1980s they are no considered bout as out of style as you could possibly get. Because of how useful they are for travelling they have also become a way of identifying tourists so if you are going abroad and want to blend in then it probably isn’t best to wear one! However you should never sacrifice comfort for fashion and there is no doubt that a fannypack can be useful in many different situations as well as being more comfortable than other options.

There is still hope for the fannypack yet though. As with many out of date fashions there is always a chance that they will come back as a retro style and this has happened to a certain extent with some designers such as Gucci starting to make them. Leather fanny packs also have some style attacked to them because of the material.
